The Q and A...

How often have you had this conversation with your child?
No, dear. An IMPRESSIONIST is not a comedian that imitates people.
Too many times to count, we’re sure!

How about this one?
I don’t think Picasso’s glasses were cracked, darling.
The paintings really are supposed to look like that.

Whoo! If ya had a dollar every time that came up...

What about this?
No, sweetheart. Andy Warhol did not invent Campbell's Soup.
Yeah. That’s always a tough one!

Kids have questions.
When it comes to the Arts, we’ll make sure they’re in the know.

Gallery 111 is committed to Arts Education but... We Need Your Help.

Soon, your conversations with the kids will be more like this...
I agree, darling. Abstract Expressionists aren’t very much fun at parties.”

ABOUT GALLERY 111

Mark T. Skinner Classical Magnet School is located in Chicago's West Loop, the fastest growing neighborhood in Chicago. With a student body of 540 children, Skinner offers challenging academic instruction for grades K-8. The school always ranks as one of the top schools in Chicago and statewide. Yet as a Chicago Public School, it has little to no instruction in the arts. The school has a budget for only one half of a music teacher. So a group of concerned teachers and parents formed Gallery 111 to broaden the arts programming for our students and faculty.

Gallery 111 was established as a standing committee of Forum (Skinner's PTO) in 2003. We were responsible for Skinner receiving an Urban Gateways Cultural Enrichment Program Grants: an empowerment grant that provides $48,000 of arts programming for $24,000. We were one of only 16 schools to receive this grant. We are also one of 26 Chicago Public Schools chosen to participate in the Improving Academic Achievement through the Arts program. These grants have allowed us to provide much needed programming in which performing and visual arts are viewed from various cultural perspectives. Our students and teaches have already had artists-in-residence and cultural performances at the school. We look forward to upcoming programming to spur the creativity of our students, faculty, and parents.
