  • Hands on Stanzas poetry residency for 5th grade classrooms
  • 5th&6th grades to attend Donizetti’s “Elixir of Love” @Whitney Young (Lyric Opera in the Neighborhoods) (Nov.9)
  • 2nd  grade music field trip to see Chicago Symphony Orchestra performance  (Mar. 22)
  • Kindergarten classrooms attended “Pow Wow” Indian tribal concert @Old Town School of Folk Music (Nov.3rd )
  • 1st grade field trip to see “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” performance (Apr.16th)
  • 4th grade field trip to see Guitarras de Espana, a Spanish music and dance performance (Apr 27th)
  • 4th grade field trip to see Emerald City’s The Three Little Pigs  
  • 3rd grade field trip to see Chicago Theater School’s Shakespeare production
  • 7th grade trip to House of Blues to participate in Blues School House
  • Purchased $475 in additional percussion instruments for Ms. Maatouk’s music classes

Art Accomplishments for the 2008-2009 School Year

  • April 16th in school performance of Dr. Doolittle by Emerald City Theatre. Grades K through 4.
  • 2nd grade classrooms to visit Mexican National Museum for tour and art workshop (Oct. 9th)
  • 6th grade classrooms to participate in a “Building Bridges” Theater Workshop through Adventure Stage Chicago
  • 3rd &4th grade classrooms to start theater residency through Lookingglass Theater
  • 7th & 8th grade classrooms to accompany 6th graders to see “Katrina” at Adventure Stage Theater (April 23rd)
  • Hands on Stanzas poetry residency for 2nd & 5th grade classrooms
  • 5th&6th grades to attend “The Magic Flute” @Whitney Young (Lyric Opera in the Neighborhoods) (Nov.6)
  • Field trip to see the Chicago Symphony Orchestra for 3rd grade classrooms (Jan. 23)
  • Kindergarten classrooms to attend “Pow Wow” Indian tribal concert @Old Town School of Folk Music (Nov.11th)
  • 1st grade classrooms to view “Barbatuques” Brazilian body-band group @Old Town School (Nov. 26th)
  • 4th grade field trip for Raices Gitanes, a gypsy music and dance performance

  • Pilsen Family Day Saturday, Oct. 18th (Museum tour & lunch @Mi Tierra)
  • Ms Maatouk (music teacher) attended a one week Summer Drumming workshop in Wisconsin

Art Accomplishments for the 2007-2008 School Year

  • 6th grade classrooms to participate in a “Building Bridges” Theater Workshop through Adventure Stage Chicago  
  • 8th grade classrooms saw performance of TAO Japanese percussion at the Harris Theater  
  • 7th grade classes and Special Ed. to see a Hip Hop music/dance performance @Old Town School of Folk Music  
  • Poetry Workshops for 3rd and 5th grades implemented by poet Laura van Prooyen. Secured slot for complete Hands on Stanzas program for 2nd & 5th grade classrooms for next school year!  
  • Field trips for writing workshops at 826chicago for 3rd grades and Mr. Lew’s 5h grade classes  
  • Field trip to see the Chicago Symphony Orchestra for 4th grade classrooms  
  • 3 primary classrooms (Carlson, Rupp, Sittner) received a 6 week artist residency through Urban Gateways  
  • Kindergarten, 1st and 2ND grade classrooms attended world music concert @Old Town School of Folk Music  
  • Purchase of percussion instruments for the Music Department in preparation for World Music curriculum, plus primary grades 1-3 workshop classes with guest musician  
  • 4th grade field trip for Raices Gitanes, a gypsy music and dance performance  
  • Lookingglass Theater youth program in-school music and theatrical performance of an original work (grades 5-8)  
  • Secured grant which enabled Ms. Christiansen’s class to attend a special program at the Art Institute  
  • Arranged special free program for Skinner families at the Art Institute of Chicago on April 13th  
  • Chinatown Family Tour w/Ms. Kong and cooking demonstration May 17th

Art Accomplishments for the 2006-2007 School Year

  • 14 classrooms received 5-session artist in residency programs for our classical and special needs students in grades K-8; covering puppet and mask-making, dance and visual art.
  • Two classrooms attend an African Ballet, Amazones
  • Our entire school attended Voces Latinas, Spain’s Dancing Rhythms, in our auditorium
  • Two classroms visited the Mexican National Museum's Dia de los Muertas exhibit
  • Kiddo Publishing sent children’s positive message Hip-Hop group The Figureheads to perform for the entire school, and approximately 30 students performed with the group at the local Fulton Arts Walk
  • A.R.T. residency program provided four primary classrooms with self-portrait instruction

Art Accomplishments for the 2005-2006 School Year

  • A trip for grades k-2 to The Vittum Theater to see The Rabbit Man’s Tale.
  • A six week theater artist
  • A six week percussion class March.
  • A six week dance residency
  • A six week residency by a visual artist
  • A trip to the Athenaeum Theater to see The Children of Uganda
  • A trip to see Muntu Theatre

Art Accomplishments for the 2004-2005 School Year

  • Luna Negra Dance Company
  • 7 session Visual Artist in Residency with artist Nicole Beck for kindergarten rooms and second graders.
  • 7 session Literary/Theater arts residency with artist Maia Morgan
  • 7 session Mask-making artist in residency with artist Judy Petaque
  • 7 session Batik artist in residency program with artist Alpha Bruton
  • Fourteen week after school video club for upper grade students who applied and were accepted into the program. Class was facilitated by Bryan Dinello. The class was culminated with a trip to CAN-TV
  • Images of Africa Touring performance at Skinner for all students grades 3-8
  • American Songbag Touring performance at Skinner for all students grades K-4.
  • First Annual No Art Left Behind Fundraiser

  • Chinese Folk and Classical Dance touring performance at Skinner School.
  • Chinese Folk and Classical Dance 3-day intensive workshop
